The presence of relevant political statements is the only thing that can be praised in the new PT Kunju Muhammed movie Viswasapoorvam Mansoor. Cinema is a visual medium that should have an impact on its viewer. But with a story that has extreme level of theatrical nature, Viswasapoorvam Mansoor is a underwhelming movie that fails to express its politics in an impressive way. Mansoor is our central protagonist. He is the son of Fathibi and they belong to a reputed Muslim family. While Mansoor was preparing for directing a historical drama movie, a girl and her mother comes to his house seeking for shelter as they were a distant relative of Mansoor. The back story of this mother and daughter and how their arrival changes Mansoor’s life is what Viswasapoorvam Mansoor all about. If you divide the running time based on the movie’s nature, it feels like a love story for a major portion. The political agenda gets presented strongly only in the last quarter of the movie. The love story that eats the major chunk of the movie doesn’t have any appeal to make us root for the characters. The swiftness of the narrative causes the love story to be very peripheral. The predictability is so high towards the climax and you would easily guess what will happen next. The NIA interrogation scenes provide unintentional humor. Roshan Mathew delivers a really impressive performance as the progressive intellectual Mansoor in this movie. While most of the actors in the film struggled with dialogue delivery, the new comer shined. Prayaga Martin can’t sustain the quality she showed in the earlier portions. Renji Panicker and Asha Sarath were good. The other members in the cast include Leona, Santhosh Keezhattoor, Zarina Wahab, Sreeraman and a few more. The street drama kind of feel in the treatment is the main problem with PT Kunju Muhammad’s making. Labeling of Muslims as terrorists, false UAPA allegations, the silence of the left wing and the partiality and sensationalism of media etc. are mentioned in the movie. But the space given to all those events are very minimal. A love story and friendship aspect of Mansoor’s life is shown in the movie which by the way makes no real impact. The wedding song in the movie is pathetic in terms of song quality and visualization. The other songs were fine. The frames were nice. But the cuts and BGM disappointed me. Viswasapoorvam Mansoor is a tiring movie that fails to convey its thoughts through a rooted story and perfect making. The fact that the politics of the movie has relevance makes it a necessary story. But because of the poor making and writing, the tale of Mansoor isn’t a worthy movie.
